Practical Selection of a Coffee Table
Coffee tables are great for every room. It can improve the elegance of the room as well as provide additional functions which make your room not only look great but could also become practical.
But that doesn’t mean you just go out and buy a coffee table that you think will look great on you. You need to check some things before you buy you coffee table. There will be times that your coffee table will just do more damage than good if you are not able to select the right coffee table.
Room Measurement
The first thing that you should do before you buy coffee tables is to measure your room. Outline the area where you need to place your coffee table. Of all the people, you are the only one who knows where to place the coffee table and ensure that it will great when the coffee table arrives. The exact measurement of a coffee table is highly recommended especially if you have a small room. Every inch counts so you will be able to control the space in your room. Write your preferred height, width and length of the table so that you will have something to compare with when you arrive in a furniture shop.
Color Combination
As already indicated, not all coffee tables will look great in your room. The color of the coffee table should blend with the color of your room. When you have a dark colored room, get a dark colored coffee table as well so that it will complement the room. This is also applicable with light colored room. On the other hand, there are other colors that might not be applicable to light or dark room for example a pure mahogany coffee table. This is a little bit challenging but you just have to remember that it should only blend with something in color so you might want to experiment on your wall paper or just the furniture arrangement.
Shape of Coffee Table
Most coffee tables today come in round shaped top. That shape of coffee table is actually idea in most rooms since it will serve as another table. But you can always get out of the box and look for square, oval or rectangular coffee table. Again, the shape should compliment the room and not the other way around.
Safety and Durability
Coffee tables could also come in fancy materials such as glass. That may look good in your room but you still need to remember who will be using the coffee table. If you have toddlers at home, a glass top coffee table is not a good idea. It is also important to check the balance of a coffee table. They might come out too tall and might easily collapse. When it comes to durability, you are only safe in two materials: wood and metal. A wooden coffee table is aesthetically beautiful but needs refurbishing to ensure durability. Metal on the other hand requires less maintenance but might get twisted and can’t be fixed when it falls. But these components are considered as the safest type of coffee tables.
